Band students honored

Custer band students traveled to Rapid City Feb. 8 and received two 1+ ratings (superior +), 12 superior ratings and six excellent ratings.
Students receiving 1+ rating were the clarinet quartet of Allison Hosman, Chris Pinkerton, Hailey Eliason and Spencer Smith and Smith as a bass clarinet soloist.
Students receiving a superior rating were Austin Malinosky for a baritone saxophone solo; Eliason and Hannah Pinkerton (flute and clarinet duet); Tia Goebel and Sean DeHaven (alto sax duet); DeHaven (soprano sax solo); Anna Pickford, Sarah Johnson, Hosman and Smith (woodwind ensemble); Goebel (alto sax solo); DeHaven (alto sax solo); Hannah Pinkerton (flute solo); Pickford (flute solo); Pickford, Johnson, Katie Van Balen and Hannah Pinkerton (flute quartet) and Smith (piano solo).
Students receiving excellent ratings were Katie Van Balen (piano solo); Eliason (piano solo); Karrah Dawson (viola solo); Hosman (B flat clarinet solo); Christina Evans (tenor sax solo); Goebel, DeHaven, Dawson, Malinosky (saxaphone ensemble).
John Weidenbach, band director, said the students performed to the best of their ability, and did a great job of representing Custer High School. The music students are judge on tone, rhythm, technique, interpretation, musicianship and intonation.
Accompanists for the event were Smith and Mary Weidenbach.
