Custer school lunch program is recognized

uster Elementary School was recognized last Wednesday morning by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for winning the HealthierUS School Challenge Silver Award. The award recognizes the school of its efforts to create a healthier school environment through promotion of good nutrition and physical activity.
Jim McDonnell, Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), USDA, presented the award and banner to elementary principal Carol Veit. McDowell said Custer was one of only 600 schools in the nation that have achieved either bronze, silver or gold status in the nutrition program, and one of only five schools in South Dakota to be so recognized.
