Becky Lowe, the kindergarten through second grade teacher at Fairburn School, has been named the Custer School District Teacher of theYear for 2009-10.
Lowe has taught in the Custer School District for 11 years, all of which have been spent in Fairburn.
“Iâwas pretty surprised,” Lowe said of winning the award. I thought (rural school principal) Mr. (Chip) Franke and (district superintendent) Dr. (Tim) Creal were making a joke.”
Any school district teacher is eligible for the award. The winners are nominated by fellow staff members and a committee reviews the nominations and makes the selections.
Lowe said she decided to become a teacher because of her love for children. Getting to know her students is her favorite part of her job.
