Custer Elementary among the healthiest schools
Published: Wednesday, January 13th, 2010 |
| Custer Elementary School has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture with a Silver Award for its commitment to its student’s health through physical activity and nutritional excellence in the lunch and breakfast programs. The official presentation of the award will be in March of 2010 by the USDA and the South Dakota Child and Adult Nutritional Services. To date, only 612 schools across the USA have received this award since the program began in 2007- less than 1 percent of the over 100,000 schools nationwide. In South Dakota, four other schools— the elementary schools from Huron Public—have also received this award. Only 28 of the 50 states in the USA have a school that has been awarded.
