Published: Thursday, April 17th, 2014
A new school record was set by the Custer High School boys 3200 relay team last Friday at the Queen City Classic track meet in Spearfish, one of many strong performances by the track team on the day.
The team of Chase Glazier, Shane Herman, Israel Parsons and Brennan Witt ran their way to a time of 8:11.44, breaking the old school record of 8:12.7 set by Jesse Black, Rich Knuppe, Isaac Parsons and Jared Foote in 2007. The time also gave the team first place in the race.
Custer’s medley relay team also placed first, at a time of 3:45.32, which was good enough to automatically qualify for the state meet. The medley team was made up of Glazier, Witt, David Hernandez and Clayton Wahlstrom.
The final relay team to place for Custer was the 1600 team of Glazier, Wahlstrom, Witt and Graysen Trandem, who finished in second place at a time of 3:30.41.
In the individual events, Kenneth Myers was the lone Wildcat to place first, winning the 800 at a time of 2:05.53. Matt Dvorak placed third in the same race at a time of 2:07.90, while Herman was fifth at 2:09.34. Logan Burns picked up a second place finish in the 1600 at a time of 4:36.73, which also qualified him for the state meet.
In the field events, Paul Climenti placed third in the shot put with a throw of 46-7 1/2, while teammate Logan Heuer was just behind him at 46-4. Angelo Climenti placed third in the discus with a toss of 140-8 1/2.
