Nellie Mildred Davis Parsons was born Nov. 11, 1927, at Deadwood, S.D., to Ray and Florence Linton Davis. Nellie completed the eighth grade at Tripp County (S.D.) School June 23, 1944. She then attended two years of high school at Provo (S.D.) High School, receiving her High School Equivalency Certificate Oct. 16, 1981.
Nellie was married to Ed Waggoner and the couple had a daughter, Sandra Kaye. After this marriage ended Nellie and Arthur Parsons were married May 14, 1955.
Nellie worked at the Meca House in Custer, S.D., and as a nurse’s aide in Hot Springs, S.D. She and Art moved to Oelrichs, S.D., in 1978 and lived there until moving to Wedgwood Assisted Living in Custer and the past several months at Custer Regional Care Center.
Nellie died Sept. 2, 2013, at Custer Regional Senior Care. She was 85.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; her parents; and a brother, Samuel.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Rhodes of Hemingford, Neb.; brother, George (Opal) Davis of Hot Springs; sisters, Inez Sharp of Cashmere, Wash., and Margaret Kollmer of Winner, S.D.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Sept. 9 at McColley’s Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs. Interment was also Sept. 9 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.
A memorial has been established in to Prairie View United Methodist Church near Smithwick, S.D.
