Custer hosting a pair of exchange students

Published: Thursday, September 5th, 2013

Josie Gottlieb, left, from Denmark and Melissa Meusser from Germany are two foreign exchange students who are calling Custer home this school year. The two are staying with Denny and Donna McConnell.

High school students from Denmark and Germany are receiving a warm welcome from Custer residents this school year. The students are studying and living in the United States through EF Foundation for Foreign Study. Living with a local host family and attending Custer High School, the students are here to not only learn about and participate in American life, but also to enrich the community by sharing their unique customs and culture with area residents.
Melissa Meusser from Laufach, Germany is very excited to be in the U.S. and is enjoying classes, being on the Custer High School soccer team and spending time with her host family.
Josefine “Josie” Gottlieb, from Virum, Denmark, is looking forward to experiencing everything Custer has to offer during her time in America. She will get those opportunities during the next 10 months that she spends in South Dakota.
Hosting both Melissa and Josie are Donna and Denny McConnell. They believe that hosting an exchange student is a great way to learn about different cultures in a personal way.  At the same time they are enjoying sharing their American culture and family traditions with the girls.
EF Foundation matches talented, enthusiastic students from around the world with caring host families across the United States.  To find out more information about EF Foundation, visit www.effoundation.org or call Becker at 605-745-5935.
