Conard leads golfers to third place finish

Cole Conard’s 85 paced the Custer High School golf team as it placed third in the Hot Springs Invitational played at Southern Hills Golf Course Aug. 20.
The Wildcats finished with a team score of 372, just behind second place finisher Belle Fourche at 363, but well behind champion Lead-Deadwood, which posted a score of 324.
Conard’s 85 was good enough for third place overall at the meet. Medalist honors went to Brett Enright of Lead-Deadwood, who fired a 76.
Other varsity Wildcat scores included Noah Zacher at 91, Lane Robb 94, Blake Martinz 101, Zach Hollick 104 and Adam Baker 108.
Louis Ratcliffe of Custer was the JVâï¿½ï¿½medalist, shooting a nine hole score of 44.
On Aug. 19 the team was at Boulder Canyon Country Club for the Sturgis Invitational, where the team finished in fifth place with a score of 380. Rapid City Stevens won the meet with a score of 303, while Tate McVay of Sturgis won individual honors with a 72.
Top finishers for Custer were Conard and Zacher, who both shot a score of 93. Martinz finished at 95, while Robb finished at 99, Baker at 104 and Hollick at 120.
The team will be back in action this Thursday when it hosts the Custer Invitational, beginning at 10 a.m. at Rocky Knolls Golf Course. The meet is the pre-region meet, as Custer will also host the regional meet at Rocky Knolls Sept. 30.
