Dorothy J. Barrow was born May 5, 1932, in Lake Andes, S.D., to Joseph and Ruth (Glynn) Varilek. She graduated from Custer (S.D.) High School in 1949. She was a realtor with Hub Hall Real Estate and writer/host of Hub's Corner, the first real estate sales TVâ��show in Lincoln, Neb.
Dorothy was a 40-year member of Capitol City Christian Church in Lincoln, where she served as trustee, deaconess and teacher. She created hundreds of costumes for CCCC's annual Christmas program.
Dorothy was Realtor of the Year and president of the Lincoln Board of Realtors, Nebraska Realtors Assoc. and the director of the National Association of Realtors. She was an active community volunteer with numerous groups including Nebraska Children's Home, Lied Center and Saint Elizabeth's Hospital.
Dorothy died April 10, 2013. She was 80.
She was preceded in death by parents; husbands, O.E. Barrow, Jr., and Max B. Tate; and son, Dan Barrow.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Larry (Nancy) Barrow of Lincoln; daughters, Laurie "Missy" (Kevin) Throckmorton of Omaha, Neb., Roberta "Birdie" (Gerry) Flanagan of Sarasota, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Barrow of Omaha; brothers, Ron (Carolyn) Varilek of Sarasota, Fla., Bob (Barb) Varilek of Rapid City, S.D., Dick (Marlene) Varilek of Lincoln; sister, Laura (Jack) Lubeley of Lakeville, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held April 16 at Capitol City Christian Church in Lincoln, follwed by a private burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to CCCC Christmas Program, Nebraska Children's Home, Friendship Home and City Mission.
