The Custer High School wrestling teams had a busy weekend with the varsity team at the Lyman Invitational and the junior varsity team at Hot Springs.
“We’ve had better tournaments,” said head coach Jared Webster. “We could have had more heart and more discipline. We need to find that.”
Dylan Severyn took second place and Clay Seidler took fifth. Mike Murray and Jahrett Schiemer both took seventh place in their weight classes while Casey Seidler and Chasen Cole both took eighth place.
“We had some good competition,” Webster said. “We saw a lot of East River teams we normally wouldn’t see.”
With the first home dual this week, Webster wants to see a more aggressive team.
“We need to believe in ourselves and have intrinsic motivation,” he said. “We just need to come out and be more aggressive and wrestle.”
The junior varsity team wrestled at the Hot Springs Invitational, where a number of wrestlers placed in the top six. Chance Dooley (106 pounds) took second place while Eli Mines (113) and Ben Marchand (182) took third place. Blake Jensen (126) took fifth place while Blake Hanson (126) and Reed Ashmore (182) both took sixth.
“We did pretty well and learned a lot,” said coach Cory Scott.
