There is a candidate for hope and change

Published: Thursday, November 1st, 2012

In 2008 Barack Obama swept voters off their feet with his mantra of hope and change in America. He vowed to take the greatest country in the world and fundamentally change it. Few would doubt that this is one campaign promise he kept, unfortunately.
Now after four failed years of leadership in America, we find a country deeply divided. We can reflect on how our former community organizer and short-term U.S. Senator from Illinois has done. His report card is in and it doesn’t look good. His speaking skills (with a teleprompter) and sharp tongue did not camouflage his lack of experience and comprehension of basic economic principles these past four years. You can’t spend your way to prosperity.
He promised to cut the $10 trillion deficit in half in four years and instead went on a spending spree and has added $6 trillion in new national debt. He said he would have the most transparent administration of any presidency and he failed miserably at doing that.
He said he would work together with those on the opposite aisle in Congress and he completely shut the opposing party and the American people out of any serious discussions, most notably on national health care.
Nobody knew what was going on with the latter because it wasn’t broadcast on C-SPAN as promised. We were told by the House Majority Speaker at the time that Congress had to pass the law so we could see what was in it. Even our elected officials had no clue what was in the comprehensive bill, but Democrats passed it anyway. Now Americans are looking at huge tax increases to fund the monstrous bill when we were told that taxes would not be raised on the middle class.
We are now facing additional taxes at the end of the year when the so-called Bush tax cuts expire and tax rates for all Americans go up. The temporary payroll tax cuts will also run out at the end of the year, resulting in more money taken out of pay checks. This had to be done or Social Security would be in bigger trouble down the road.
This election will be about the economy because that is what is on everyone’s mind more than anything else. The jobless rate has been hovering at 8 percent ever since the president took office. This figure is deceiving because at least four million Americans have given up looking for work since 2009. They simply went on unemployment, and when that ran out, they applied for, and were granted, Social Security disability.
More than anything else, the incumbent president needs to go because he does not represent American values of patriotism and hard work. He appears not to know what it  means to be an American. Maybe this is because he has always been a person of privilege and had everything, including his illustrious political career, handed to him on a silver platter. He obviously had some influential political handlers who saw to it that the path was cleared for him to the White House.
Obama will go down in history as one of the least vetted presidential candidates to ever be elected to the highest post in the country. He still has refused to release his passsport or college records, which should be public information for all to see. And we don’t know how, when or why Barry Sotoro became Barack Hussein Obama.
The Obama campaign four years ago was marked by an unprecedented adoration of him from the national media outlets who led many people to believe he was the messiah sent to save this country and the world. He was ushered in on a wave of unrealistic hope and ultra high expectations. He was portrayed as intelligent and charismatic.
After four years, the shine has worn off and all we have left is a confused, narcissistic shell of a man who has run out of ideas. It’s time for some real hope and change in America. We simply can’t afford four more years like the last four. Let’s get back to the principles of hard work and entrepreneurship that has made this country so great.
Mitt Romney has been there and done that. As a successful public and private businessman he knows how to fix the faultering economy.
