Pickford selected for All-State Orchestra

Anna Pickford, a senior at Custer High School, is one of four flutists and one of one piccolo players selected for the 2012 South Dakota All-State Orchestra. Pickford auditioned and was judged on etudes, excerpts from the all-state concert selections and a written music terminology test.
Pickford has played flute for seven years and piccolo for three years. She will play first chair flute and first chair piccolo in the All-State Chorus and Orchestra Concer Oct. 27 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center at 7 p.m.
Pickford started playing flute in fifth grade at Custer Middle School. Soon after she started private lessons on both flute and piano. She has participated in All-State Band for two years and once in All-State Orchestra. She has also been in middle school All-State Band, middle and high school solo and ensemble competition for both flute and choir and numerous band festivals. About once a month she plays in her church youth band as well as performs special music.
