Stephen Piglowski

Published: Thursday, September 13th, 2012

Stephen Lawrence Piglowski of Custer, S.D., lost his battle with Cancer Thursday August 30 2012, at the Hospice House in Rapid City, S.D.  Steve was born January 22 1947, in St. Louis, MO., to Edward Piglowski and Valeria (Aubertin) Piglowski.
Steve lived and worked the majority of his life in the St. Louis, Mo., area.  Steve worked at Jones Truck Lines as a dock hand, an OTR driver for Ryder Distribution, UPS, VESS Soda, and for Special School District of St. Louis as a grounds keeper.  He then retired on July 31, 2012 after working 17 years for Schnucks Markets in Bridgeton, Mo., as a trailer mechanic.
Steve was a member of the Teamster Union under various locals through his trucking career.  Steve also recently became a member of the NRA.
Steve loved working in the yard, and he was known for his expertise in woodworking and furniture refinishing.  He loved restoring classic cars.  Steve also had a love for attending rendezvous and had a passion for black powder shooting.   Steve was especially known for his honesty, his integrity, and his knack for letting people know what he thought about things.
Steve and his wife DaAnn bought a home just outside Custer in August 2011 to live out their retirement years.  They fell in love with Custer, the small town atmosphere, and the people they met while attending the 50th wedding anniversary of his sister-in-law and brother-in-law in October of 2010.
He is survived by his current wife DaAnn (Strawn) Piglowski of Custer, S.D.; sons Ryan and Todd (Amy) Piglowski; stepsons Raymond (Stephanie) Walker and Donald Pearman; stepdaughter Melodie Guerra; eight grandchildren; brother, Richard Adrian (Jeannie) Piglowski of Weldon Springs, Mo.; sister, Christine Piglowski  of Canyon Country, Calif.; three nieces; and one nephew; cousins and extended family members.
At Steve’s request no immediate services were held.  Celebration of Life gatherings will be held in Missouri and in South Dakota in the near future.
