The cross-country team competed at the Spearfish Invitational on Thursday, Aug. 30, and had three varsity team members medal, as well as three freshman earn awards.
For the boys varsity team, Matt Dvorak placed seventh and Logan Burns placed ninth. The boys team tied with last year’s state champions Cheyenne Eagle Butte, but lost the tie-breaker, which compares the first non-scoring placer from each team, and took home third place in the team results. At this stage in the season, coach Karen Karim is happy with the teams’ results and progression.
“For this time in the year the kids look great,” said coach Karen Karim. “I was particularly impressed with the way Matt Dvorak went out and competed with all the big school (AA) kids in his race. He is showing how competitive he can be by racing them as tough as he did during the middle part of his race. Cross-country races go to the ones willing to put it on the line and be gutsy.”
