Custer Cruisin’ deemed success

The Custer Cruisin’ committee meet for its monthly meeting on Friday, Aug. 31, to discuss the Custer Cruisin’ event in August. 

“I heard numerous compliments and praises,” said Jim Understock, committee chairman. “Merchants were happy, vendors were happy and riders were happy. Everyone worked really hard and did a great job.”

“Thanks for all the hard work, effort and great job,” said Mayor Gary Lipp. “It was a great year.”

“I heard tons of good things from visitors, including families,” said Dave Ressler, director of the Custer Area Chamber of Commerce. “It was the best event yet.”

There were a few suggestions for next year. City employee Lynnette Merritt shared feedback from those who participated on the Mayor’s Ride Poker Run.

“Some riders wanted to register earlier and I would have no problem doing that at city hall,” she said. “Some wished the beginning and ending place were the same and they wished they had more time for riding.”

The committee talked about advertising the event more, as they did not have as many riders as they thought they would.

“We had about 60 bikes on the ride,” said Rex Harris, community development director. “We would have liked more, but we had a great turnout considering the rain we had that afternoon.”

The committee talked about creating flyers for the event and placing them in hotels, restaurants and even on the streets a few days before the event. 

“I think promoting the rides is key,” Lipp said. “If we get the word out we should have no problem getting riders.”
