Florence Howard

Florence Mary Howard (Culver) was born July 14, 1912, in Twilight, Butte County, S.D., to Todd and Bertha (Keegan) Culver. She married Willis Howard in 1935. They were married for 66 years. She taught school from 1933 until 1974 in South Dakota, Wyoming and Michigan. She was a lifetime member of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Rebekah’s, Senior Center of Hot Springs, S.D., and the Ladies of Encampment.

Florence will be remembered by her family and friends for her caring, compassion and dedication to learning.

Florence died July 18, 2012, at her home near Custer, S.D. She was 100.

Florence is survived by her daughter, Loyce May of Custer; son, Donald (Caren) Howard of Argyle, S.D.; sister, Ora Lee Ackerman of Maryland; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Rebekah rites were held July 22 at McColley’s Chapel of the Hills in Custer. Funeral services were July 23 at McColley’s Chapel of the Hills with Pastor Matt Furse officiating. 

Committal was at the Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche, S.D.

A memorial has been established to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Mountain View Baptist Mission Fund.
