9 P.M. MYRTLE FIRE UPDATE

As of 9 p.m. tonight, the Myrtle Fire is 20 percent contained and is over 9,000 acres. Over 550 firefighters are working to contain the fire.

The fire is primarily a surface fire with some group torching and is fueled by the surrounding dry area. The terrain is very difficult and the Forest Service has labeled the fire with a medium chance to grow.

Firefighters will continue direct and indirect control measures on the southeast, south, and southwest flanks.

The current temperature is in the low 90s, with 28 percent humidity, with wind at 8 m.p.h.
