County 4-H Horse Show results announced

Custer and Fall River County 4-H youth exhibited their horsemanship skills by participating in the County 4-H Horse Show July 2 at the fairgrounds in Hermosa. The event was judged by Shelly Graff of Piedmont. This may have been a record year for attendance as well, with 35 youth participating, which is an increase from 26 in 2011.  

The 4-Hers practiced many hours, training their horses for the different events and look forward to competing at the county level, many with hopes of advancing to the state horse show in Huron. All participants must complete a horse safety training program to gain skills, knowledge and expertise regarding the importance of safety around horses and while riding horses. 

The Custer County Beginner Grand Champion Showmanship trophy was awarded to Torrie Murray.   Several participants received Purple ribbons and qualified for the state horse show, including one happy 8-year-old who will make the trip, Jessica Woodward of the Custer County Mounties 4-H Club.  Woodward received purple ribbons in both the Beginner Stock Seat and Jr. Western Riding events. 

4-Hers exhibit by age divisions of Beginner (8-10), Junior (11-13), and Senior (14-19) and there is a Pony division for horses under 54 inches. All 4-Hers receiving a purple ribbon in an event are qualified to participate in the state horse show July 23-26.
