After high school, Jane graduated from St. Cloud (Minn.) Teacher's College in 1945. She began her teaching career in Verndale, Minn., then moved to Thompson Falls, Mont.

The Custer superintendent met her in Fargo, N.D., for an interview and she was hired on the spot. Jane moved to Custer in 1959, where she taught for 32 years, retiring in 1991.
After retirement Jane continued to teach at Outlaw Ranch for Lutheran's Outdoors. She also taught confirmation at Custer Lutheran Fellowship and volunteered at the food pantry. Jane was a founding member of Custer Lutheran Fellowship, where she served in many capacities.
Soon after arriving in Custer Jane met the love of her life, Douglas Olson. They were married on Dec. 27, 1960. Jane and Doug had four children. Doug died in 1969.
