Kathryn Brodersen was born on March 9, 1928, to Paul and Mary (Stahl) Wipf in Yale, S.D. She graduated from Hitchcock High School in 1945. In 1948, Kathryn graduated from St. John’s School of Nursing, in Huron, S.D.
Kathryn was united in marriage to Kenneth Brodersen on Oct. 13, 1949. She was a Registered Nurse at the Huron Clinic and Wessington Springs (S.D.) Hospital and Care Center. She and Kenneth moved to Custer, S.D., where she then worked at Custer Community Hospital and South Dakota Developmental Center until her retirement in 1995. She moved to Elk Point, S.D., in 2008.
Kathryn was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Custer. She loved everything about antiques. In her spare time, she would knit, fish and listen to books on tape. What she most enjoyed was spending time with her grandkids.
Her beautiful smile and fun loving nature will be remembered by family, many nieces, nephews and other relatives, and all who called her friend.
Kathryn died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Prairie Estates Nursing Home in Elk Point. She was 84.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth in 1985; three sisters, Irene Wipf, Janice Wipf and Mary Ann Zuccaro; and two brothers, Maurice Wipf and Robert Wipf.
She is survived by her son, Brad (Karol) Brodersen of Vermillion, S.D.; two grandchildren, Trisha (Ryan) Justice of Cedar Park, Texas, and Tim (Natalie) Brodersen of Golden, Colo.; three great-grandchildren, Camden and Clara Justice and Wren Brodersen; a brother-in-law, Peter Wipf of Kentucky; and three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Wipf of Kentucky, Marion Lehnherr of Washington and Geri Wipf of Georgia.
Services will be held June 28 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be the day of the funeral at the church. Visit welterfuneral
