They did it! The Custer Lady Wildcat volleyball team won its first District 8A regional championship at home last Tuesday night, Nov. 10, by beating St. Thomas More in three sets and earning its first trip ever to the state volleyball tournament in Watertown this weekend. Congratulations to the players and coaches for a job well done! The team seems to be peaking at just the right time in the season, so who knows what will happen at the state tournament. Two weeks ago, the Lady Wildcats beat Hot Springs in the district tournament. This was the second win over perrenial champion Hot Springs this season and a sign that the Custer volleyball program is taking a new direction. The Lady Wildcats are seeded eighth in the state tournament. First order of business in Watertown this Thursday is beating Wagner, the number one seed which has a 31-1 record through the regions. The 22-10 Custer team will need to play up to its potential to advance in tourney play at Watertown. In beating St. Thomas More on their home court Nov. 10, the Lady Wildcats played loose and had fun. They need to take that same attitude into state play and not be intimidated by the Wagner team. Those who can’t make it to Watertown on Thursday can watch the game on the state’s Public Broadcasting Network at 11 a.m. MST. In any case, we wish the team all the best at the state tourney. We will be rooting for you all the way and expect that you will do your very best knowing we are all extremely proud of you. Click Here To See More Stories Like This |
