CCIC wants nodes

The Custer Community Improvement Committee (CCIC) was informed by Rex Harris, city planner, and Duane Murphey, city council member, that the city council may eliminate the four nodes in the TIF plans. This came as a shock to the CCIC members at the Thursday, Nov. 12, meeting. CCIC members in attendance all agreed the nodes are a fundamental part of the design. They questioned whether Custer wants to be seen as a dangerous community, because the four nodes were planned to be constructed at the busiest intersections to make it safer for pedestrians to cross the street. Two nodes were to be built at 4th Street and Mt. Rushmore, and the other two at 7th Street and Mt. Rushmore. The price for building the four nodes is estimated between $140,000 and $150,000.
