Mary Elger

Mary June Elger was born to Ernest and Eudorah (Crofutt) Underhill in the rural Clinton, Neb., area on May 26, 1931.

June went to the Clinton grade school, then moved to the Black Hills in South Dakota area with her family. She graduated from Custer (S.D.) High School and married John Elger Aug. 14, 1954, in Oelrichs, S.D., after he served in the Korean War.

She had three sons, Calvin, Robert and Paul. John and June lived in the Black Hills until they retired. They then moved to Stuart, Neb., to be near their grandchildren, Sarah and Jacob. With the grandchildren, they made trips to Wyoming and Missouri to see their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

June enjoyed baking cookies and fruit cakes, and then giving them away to family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; one brother; three sisters; and one grandson, Jake.

She is survived by three sons, Calvin (Marilyn) of Lander, Wyo., Robert (Lien) of Dixon, Mo., and Paul (Joyce) of North Platte, Neb.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Stuart Community Church, with Pastor Wayne Owens officiating. Burial followed at the Stuart Community Cemetery. There was no visitation or prayer service.
