Cody Herman was the top finisher for the boys at the state meet last weekend, placing 17th.

Thinking her team outdid themselves last week during regionals, Custer cross country coach Karen Karim said she wasn’t too surprised by the results at this year’s state meet held at the Elks Golf Course in Rapid City on Saturday, Oct. 24, where Custer’s boys team finished in sixth place overall and the girls team finished in ninth place overall.

On the boys side, Cody Herman  led the way for Custer with the time of 17:44.8, which landed him in 17th place. C. Herman was the lone medalist on the boys team for Custer and was followed by Brennan Witt, 33rd, 18:22.9; Logan Burns, 53rd, 18:43.2; Shane Herman, 77, 19:09; Israel Parsons, 87th, 19:17.8; and Tyler Jones, 98th, 19:27.2.

Karim said she was happy with the boys’ ninth place finish overall and said each one of them ran one of their best races on the year.
