It has been a season to forget for the Custer High School football team. Fresh off a 48-0 shellacking at the hands of the Belle Fourche Broncs, and firmly out of the Class A playoff picture, the 0-7 Wildcats have one last chance to pick up a victory Thursday night when they host the Hill City Rangers. Beating the Rangers has been routine for Custer lately, as the Wildcats have defeated their rivals to the south six years in a row, including a 58-8 win last year in Hill City. So while playoffs are not possible, there is still something to play for, as the Wildcats can end the season with a win and retain the Heart of the Hills Cup. That’s exactly what they hope to do, Custer head coach Russ Bailey said. Available only in the print version of the Custer County Chronicle. To subscribe, call 605-673-2217.
