The City of Custer recently spent $42,000 buying a lot less than an acre of land just off Surrey Lane in the Boot Hill Subdivision. It’s a purchase that has many Boot Hill residents crying foul. The city has said it purchased the property for the sole purpose of providing emergency access to its wastewater treatment facility. However, Boot Hill residents have made it be known—including at the Sept. 21 special meeting of the council—they believe the city has other plans for the land, including using it as the main route to and from the wastewater plant, rather than spending money to repair a bridge that crosses French Creek on Spring Place Road.
