Floyd Ellerton

  Floyd W. Ellerton was born in rural Harrold, S.D., and moved to the Custer, S.D., area in the 1930s. He married Ruby Lamke in 1941. After working in sawmilling, Floyd started and ran a successful radio and television service, from which he retired. Floyd was an independent and resourceful gentleman who was thankful for his family and ability to live in his own home in his later years. He enjoyed bowling, cutting wood in the Hills, running his business, helping his family and visiting his daughters and extended family. Floyd died Feb. 17, 2009, at Rapid City (S.D.) Regional Hospital with family at his side. He was 94. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby. He is survived by his brothers, Sherm and Alvin of Rapid City and Kenneth of Custer; Marlin of Bakersfield, Calif., sister, Arlene Cannon of Kennewick, Wash; daughters, Charlotte Schoonover of Rapid City and Carol McKenzie of Lakewood, Colo.; grandchildren, Carmen Carmack of Fort Collins, Colo., Teresa Fendrich of Sioux Falls, S.D., Christopher Linde of Minneapolis, Minn., Chad McKenzie of Lakewood and Carrie Norwood of Littleton, Colo.; four great-grandchildren; and special friend, Alma Steinhauer of Custer.  A memorial service was held Feb. 21 at McColley’s Chapels of the Hills. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
