Wendell “Guy” Morrell was born April 13, 1936, in Fremont, Utah, to Alton and Elnora Morrell. In 1951 the Morrell family moved from Fremont to Evanston, Wyo., where the family started up another ranch called “Morrell & Sons Registered Hereford-Brahman Cattle.” There, he graduated from Evanston High School in 1954.
In 1962, his parents and younger siblings moved to the ranch they had since 1956, while he stayed and started trucking for Newman Transport. On Sept. 2, 1958, he married Joan Hutchings in Evanston. They had four children—Harley, Genie, Hayley and Gena. He moved his family to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1968 to be closer to his family.
He was a member of the American Hunting Club and the National Rifle Association.
Guy died Jan. 25, 2009, at his home in Hill City, S.D. He was 72.
Guy is survived by his son, Harley Morrell of Cody, Wyo.; three daughters, Genie Gardner of Broken Arrow, Okla., Hayley Rogers of Farmington, N.M., and Gena Wood of Oklahoma City, Okla.; stepdaughter, Crystal Heath of Pinckney, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Jan. 30 at McColley’s Chapel of the Hills in Custer, S.D., with William Daybreast officiating.
