William James “Cav” Cavanaugh was born Feb. 4, 1952, in Shamokin, Pa., to Edward and Mae (Hanisko) Cavanaugh. He rode with the Warlocks Motorcycle Club for 12 years and worked for the Northern & Redding Railroad for 18 years.
He married Rita on April 13, 2007. Cav served in the U.S. Navy from May 29, 1969, until his honorable discharge on Feb. 1, 1971.
Cav, of Custer, S.D., died April 21, 2009, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Hot Springs, S.D. He was 57.
He was preceded in death by his father and step-brother, Fritz.
Survivors include his wife, Rita of Custer; son, Dillon Cavanaugh; daughter, Sheila Cavanaugh of Opp, Ala.; mother, May Cavanaugh of Palmyra, Pa.; brothers, Edward (Barbara) Cavanaugh of Las Alamitos, Calif., and Bob (Lynn) Cavanaugh of Georgia; step-mother, Donna (Earl) Scarabin of Poplarville, Miss.; step-brothers, Chuck Cavanaugh of Gretna, La., Donald Cavanaugh of Marrero, La., and John (Diane) Cavanaugh of Algiers, La.; step-sister, Judy (Jim) Heisey of Palmyra, Debbie Cavanaugh of Harvey, La., and Susan (Kolby) Davis of Picayune, Miss.; and two grandchildren.
At the family’s request, no services will be held.
