Marvin Lemmer

Marvin Henry Lemmer was born on March 25, 1929, in North Platte, Neb., to Henry and Annabell (Booth) Lemmer at his grandparents’, Ernest and Ada Booths’, home. He went to schools at North Platte, Neb.; Buffalo, Neb.; Lexington, Neb., and Cozad, Neb., as well as Oconto, Neb., and Callaway, Neb., high schools. He also worked on two fox farms and two dairy farms. Marvin enlisted in the U. S. Army in May of 1948 and then received a dependency discharge in April 1950. In May 1950 he was drafted back into the Army and served until his honorable discharge in 1953. Marvin spent both tours in Germany. On July 16, 1953, Marvin married Donetta Mae Schiomer. To this union three children were born, Michael Warren, Julie LeAnn and Marva Nadine. Marvin was a professional cook for 37 years and retired in 1997. He liked canning, hiking, wild berry picking and transplanting wildflowers. Marvin, of Custer, S.D., died April 4, 2009, at the VA Medical Center in Hot Springs, S.D. He was 80. He is survived by one son, Michael Warren Lemmer of Texas; two daughters, Julie LeAnn Whitney of Hot Springs; Marva Lemmer of Texas; one brother, Bernard Lemmer of Cherry Tree, Pa.; three sisters, Myrna Stithem of Lindale, Texas; Marlene (Bob) Beeson of Kansas; Carolyn Waldren of Kansas; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, April 9, at McColley’s Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 10, at McColley’s Chapel of the Hills. Interment will follow at the Pringle Cemetery near Pringle, S.D. Written condolences may be made at www.mccolleyschapels.com.
