  Wallace “Wally” Bangsund was born Dec. 16, 1942, in Benson, Minn., to Orvin Hiram and Ruth Josephine (Johnson) Bangsund. He grew up in Cashel Township (Minn.), went to country school until eighth grade, then spent the remainder of his years in Benson, Minn. He graduated in 1961. He was united in marriage to Marion Ann Sylte Dec. 28, 1963. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage. He lived with his family on a farm south of Benson. He farmed until 2000 on the home farm in Cashel Township. After retiring they moved to Custer, S.D., and built their dream home with the help of his son-in-law Jeff and neighbor Norb. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, riding 4-wheeler, riding horses, going for breakfast, spending time with friends and working in his shop on various wood projects. He also enjoyed time with his grandchildren and being a big part of their life. Wally died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, S.D. He was 66. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray; and sister, Eunice Mae.  Wally is survived by his wife, Marion; three children, Renee’ (Gary) Jensen of Benson; Keith (Denise) Bangsund of Montevideo, Minn., and Rachelle (Jeff) Johnson of Custer; grandchildren, Brett Jensen, Sara Jensen, Brock Bangsund, Jenna Bangsund, Tyrel Johnson, Josey Johnson and Jalee Johnson; brother, LuVerne (Mona) Bangsund of Benson; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Ellingson of Benson.  Funeral services were Jan. 20 at  Custer Lutheran Fellowship in Custer, with pastors Jim Lindekugel and Kent Narum officiating. Funeral services were also Jan. 24 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Benson with Pastor David Andert officiating. Interment was at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery in Benson.
