Glenn O. Flanagan was born Sept. 16, 1928, in Hot Springs to Ellen and Noble Flanagan.
In 1955, he married Betty Jane Borgen in Chadron, Neb. They made their home in Custer where they raised their daughter, Glenda.
Glenn belonged to the National Guard in Hot Springs and served in Korea. He was the unit administrator in Custer and worked at Camp Rapid until his retirement. He was a Master Mason and member of Custer City Lodge #66 for 48 years. He served on the city council and was parade chairman for Gold Discovery Days.
Glenn loved to play the guitar and started playing in dance bands as a teenager. He enjoyed jam sessions with his granddaughters and played with his musician friends during their winters spent in Arizona. He was a General Custer history buff and took his granddaughters on numerous trips to the battlefield. Camping trips to Ditchcreek were a highlight of the summertime.
Glenn was a loving and devoted husband, a warm, caring and helpful father and the kind of grandpa who taught his granddaughters how to ride their bikes and always had time for them in his “fix-it shop.:
Glenn died Thursday, Dec. 11 at Custer Community Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Dale, Vern and Vivian.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter Glenda (Kevin) Jenniges of Custer; granddaughters Ellen (Matt) Lewison of Custer, Kara (fiancee Jeff Bradeen) Jenniges of Custer, Emily (Cody) Asher of Belle Fourche, S.D.; sister, Darlene (Joe) Cook of Hibbing, Minn.; brother Eldon (Jan) Flanagan of Toman, Wis.; favorite brother-in-law Odean (Becky) Borgen of Custer; and great-grandchildren Hank Asher and Quinn Lewison.
Private family services were held Dec. 14.
