Leona Pearl Sheets was born Sept. 29, 1917, in Crawford, Neb., to Hanz and Carrie (Turner) Rasmussen. She was a lifelong resident of the Hot Springs and Custer, S.D., areas. Leona was loved by all her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Leona died Monday, Dec.1, 2008, at Castle Manor in Hot Springs. She was 91.
She is survived by four sons, Earl Sheets of Hot Springs, John (Josie) Asche of Borrego Springs, Calif., Joe (Carol) Sheets of Stewart, Okla., Glen “Tuffy” (Pat) Sheets of Kent, Wash.; two daughters, Norma Craft of Sioux City, Iowa, and Martha VanAntwerp of Belle Fourche, S.D.; step-children, Lola Smith of Rapid City, S.D., Lucille (Dean) Sturdivant of Orin Junction, Wyo., and Darrel “Shakey” (Joann) Sheets of Hot Springs; two sisters, Shirley Rife of Logan, Iowa, and Laura Daniels of California; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-granchildren.
Funeral services were Dec. 6 at McColley’s Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs with Pastor Bill Savery officiating. Interment followed at the Custer Cemetery.
