Elizabeth Ann (Summers) Bonk was born Sept. 4, 1933, in Hubbard County, Minn., to Glen and Elva Summers. She grew up in Park Rapids and went to Park Rapids High School, from which she graduated in 1951. She married Floyd Clifford Bonk June 2, 1955, in Park Rapids. They retired to Custer, S.D., for 28 years. The last seven months she lived at Glen Ellyn, Ill, to be near her daughter, Ginny.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile.
She loved adventures: camping trips on the Bonk-House-a-go-go, going fishing (or was that sunbathing?), traveling with her sister to Branson, Mo., and Canada and living in Bonks Valley, S.D., with Floyd.
On Monday morning Nov. 3, 2008, Bette died at her home, “The Meadows of Glen Ellyn,” in Glen Ellyn. She was 75 years old.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter, Carol Anne Weiskopf.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd of Glen Ellyn; a sister, Audrey (Bill) Harsha of Park Rapids; two children, the Rev. John (Linda) Bonk of Embarrass, Minn., and Virginia (Jim) Weiskopf of Glen Ellyn; 16 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Nov. 7 at Case Family Funeral Home Chapel in Park Rapids with James Neubauer as officiant. A memorial service was also held at The Meadows of Glen Ellyn Nov. 12. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Grand Chapter of the South Dakota A.C.T.S. 513, West 4th Ave., Mitchell, SD 57301, Assisting Children to Smile.”
