Mike Nielsen

Mike Nielsen was born Sept. 18, 1965, in Huron, S.D., to Marvin and Delores (Ames) Nielsen. He grew up on the family dairy farm northwest of St. Lawrence, S.D., and he graduated from high school in Miller, S.D., in 1983. He moved to Custer, S.D., in 1984 where he met Bonnie (Kenefick). They were married Sept. 22, 1990.
Mike experienced an abundance of life through hard work and dedication. In his 45 short years he was a very successful husband, dad, friend and business man.
Mike died after a long battle with cancer on Feb. 9, 2011. He was 45.
Mike was proceeded in death his grandparents; aunts; uncles; and several cousins.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie; and their children, Lauren (Shem) Sigafoos of Hot Springs,  S.D., Justin Nielsen of Custer and Caitlan Nielsen of Custer; his parents, Marvin and Delores Nielsen of Custer; his brothers, Pat Nielsen of Custer, Mark (Kim) Nielsen of Custer; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were Feb. 12 at Custer Lutheran Fellowship Church with Pastors Neil Hughes, Don Hartley and Tom Opoien officiating. Interment followed at Custer Cemetery.
Memorial fund given to Compassionate Care Hospice, 602 Mt Rushmore Rd. Suite 2, Custer, SD 57730.

I am sorry I was not in town for Mikes funeral ... Please accept my sincere condolence. I considered Mike and his family my good friends ... I have nothing but fond memories of Mike and all I knew of his life is positive ... May god rest Mikes soul and give peace to his family. .... dooley
