Franklin Mayer

Franklin D. Mayer was born June 1, 1933, on the home farm in Edmonds County, S.D., as the fifth child of Jacob J. and Anna Mary (Nehlich) Mayer.
On Dec. 28, 1953, he married Florence Butler in Aberdeen, S.D. Franklin worked most of his life as a farmer near Roscoe, S.D. After moving to the Black Hills in 1974, he founded and owned Mayer Plumbing in Custer, S.D., until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends traveling, camping, hunting and fishing.
Franklin died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at Custer Regional Hospital. He was 77.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Elmer and Harold; as well as his grandson Dustin Goodro.
Franklin is survived by his wife, Florence; a daughter, Karen Holloway; three sons, Michael (Debra), David (Tori) all of Custer; and Gary (Illona) of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Corneila Ellwein of Ipswich, S.D.; one brother, Howard (Carole) of Mansfield, S.D.; six grandchildren, Christopher, Nichole, Tyrell, Amanda, Travis, and Brittany; and two great-grandchildren, Anton and Anastie.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

He was a great man who loved his wife and family. Everyone will miss him.
