Anderson retires after 22 years in the pulpit

After 22 years of leading his flocks, Pastor Robert Anderson retired from the pulpit last Sunday.

Anderson preached at both Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Custer and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hill City since 1988. He also led services at the State Treatment and Rehabilitation (STAR) Academy for juveniles for over a decade.

In his time as pastor, Anderson put forth considerable effort to have his churches become more involved in the community. Anderson helped the Custer Meals on Wheels program grow, and also helped implement a bus program for those who need assistance to reach church. He also expanded church involvement in other areas, such as missionary work and the STAR Academy.

“I think our church is involved a lot more in the community now than they were 20 some years ago,” Anderson said.

Anderson grew up in Worthington, Minn., and went to high school in Milwaukee, Wis. He received a B.A. in elementary education at Concordia in St. Paul, and went on to graduate from the Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Ill.
