Gold Discovery days was full of sporting activities, from volleyball to softball, horseshoes to disc golf.
“Almost Original” won the four-on-four volleyball tournament. The team of Ashley Schultz, Kate Starr, Chad Bryant and Luke Roddy defeated the Wyoming Slow “Pokes” for the championship. The Slow Pokes consisted of Toby Cass, Stacey Cass, Ryan Bailey and Roxy Gray.
“The Hooligans” were voted the best dressed team. The team was made up of Sarah Albertson, Lynnette Merrit, Scott Marsich and David Green. The best team name was given to “Green and Dangerous.” That team consisted of Luressa Schultz, Alisha Schultz, Isaac Parsons, John Fischer, Eric Flores and Shea Koch.
In the horseshoe competition, Connie Filley and Billy Caylor went 9-0 to best the other eight teams in the field and win the competition. In second place were Ken Hanson and Marilyn Hyde, who went 7-2 to finish second, while Ray Zobel and Justin Coupens finished third at 6-1/2-2-1/2.
Top Pin Archery & Top Pin Archers Club co-hosted the sixth annual “Shoot for Gold” 3-D Archery Shoot in Custer State Park during Custer’s Gold Discovery Days celebration July 24-25. Attendance for this year’s shoot was 108 shooters from three states and a dozen cities around South Dakota. The weather was fantastic for both days of the shoot and everyone said it was a great shoot. The following were the top finishers for the two day shoot.
