A group of nearly 30 Custer County residents from all walks of life, i.e., business owners, educators, healthcare professionals, men of the cloth and students, gathered at the Forest Service conference room last Tuesday and Friday with one goal in mind—the future of the Custer community. Funding through the Custer Area Chamber of Commerce, Custer County and the City of Custer brought Kristi Wagner, Southâ??Dakota Rural Enterprise program director, and Dan Oedekoven, South Dakota State University extension service community innovation and leadership, who are collaborating as facilitators for Custer to hold a Creating a Value-Added Community (CVAC) assessment; the first of its kind in Custer in just over five years.
