A grassroots effort to persuade the State of South Dakota to keep the Black Hills Playhouse at its current location is growing like wildfire. A page started on Facebook, entitled “Save the Black Hills Playhouse” was created by Heather Caliguire, a graduate student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She will graduate with an MFA in theatre in May, and served as properties master for the Playhouse in the 2008-09 season. “I believe the Playhouse should stay where it is, because that is what makes it special,” she said. “The locations of any of the hundreds of summer stock theatres in the county is what makes them special. Anyone who has ever been out to the Black Hills Playhouse grounds cannot help but fall in love with its rustic setting and calming atmosphere. Move it somewhere else, and it is no longer the Black Hills Playhouse.” Available only in the print version of the Custer County Chronicle. To subscribe, call 605-673-2217.
