Spam cook-off to benefit Storehouse

It’s war at the Hitchrail — a cook-off war, that is. 
On Monday, March 25, co-owner and chef Dennis Boitnott and friend chef David Melmer will participate in the first cook-off at the Hitchrail restaurant in Pringle. The secret ingrediant? Spam.
“Dennis and I decided that we wanted to do something fun for the community that would benefit a local charity,” said Ann Bonestroo, co-owner of the Hitchrail. 
The idea for the Spam cook-off came after Bonestroo talked with friends about the product over the winter.
“We were joking about it and talking about all the food items you can make with it,” she said. “Chef David and Chef Dennis started to challenge each other. So the competition was born!”
Bonestroo hopes to make the cook-off an annual event.
“March is such a slow month and we thought it would be a great time to have the community come out and support the event,” Bonestroo said. “We want to make it a fun event and bring awareness to the Storehouse.”
Tickets are $5 and non-perishable food donations for the Storehouse are appreciated. The doors open at 4 p.m. with Spam appetizers, drawings and giveaways. The Spam tasting will take place at 6 p.m.
