New pizza business has Custer talking

The Witt family, from left, Greg, Steve, Lacey and Michele, opened Pizza Mill on Tuesday, June 5. The building is next to Steve’s other business, Witt’s Heating and Air Conditioning. Steve has always enjoyed cooking and when the opportunity came up, he purchased the pizza recipe and equipment from a friend.

When the opportunity to own a pizza business presented itself, the Witt family jumped at the chance.
“I’ve always enjoyed cooking; it’s something I like to do,” Steve Witt said.
When Witt’s friend decided to eliminate pizza from his Hill City- based restaurant, Witt purchased the pizza equipment and recipe. After six months of renovation, Pizza Mill opened June 5 to hungry customers.
“I wanted something different and this definitely is different,” Witt said.
Witt, a Custer native, has been in the heating business for 20 years and started Witt’s Heating and Air Conditioning, located next door to Pizza Mill,  16 years ago.
“Even though I have Pizza Mill, I am not giving up my heating and air conditioning business,” Witt said. “I love both and plan to be involved in both businesses.”
Customers can purchase pizza by the slice during the lunch-time hour. From vegetarian to meat lovers, Pizza Mills’s hand-rolled, thin-crust pizzas are by no means skimpy. Pizzas are loaded with vegetables, meats and other toppings of customers’ choosing. Pizza names revolve around sawmill-type names, as do the decorations. While there may not be house specialty pizzas, it has something for everyone.
“We hope to offer more items once the restaurant is open longer,” Witt said. “We want to be open in the winter, so in order to do that we need to have a workable menu that will allow for that.”

My daughter recently ate there and said it's the best pizza she's ever had.
