Art Red Horse of Custer is in his first year of doing artwork for the annual Buffalo Stampede, and it is proving to be a challenge.
Red Horse, who has been doing art for as long as he can remember, is a realistic oil painter by trade. However, he is using acryllic paint on the life-sized buffalo he is making for the Stampede, which has proved to have a learning curve for him.
“I’m struggling with it. It dries way too quickly,”âhe said with a laugh. “It’s been a challenge. It’s going to take a little longer than I thought.”
When Red Horse began painting 25 years ago, it was with acryllic paint. However, that was for two-dimensional pieces, not the three-dimensional piece he is creating for the Stampede. Despite is early struggles, Red Horse said he is enjoying the experience.
