The world of ‘The Legendary Aroden Ki’

Imagine someone taking a chunk of ancient Rome, with a splash of science fiction and a coming of age story and tossing it into a bag with 124 blank pages in it. After shaking the bag to and fro the handler opens the bag up and hands you a completed novel. In a sense, that is what Custer graduate Cody Deatherage did upon writing his first book, “Tides of Fate: The Legendary Aroden:Book 1 Vindication.” Taking two passions of his: ancient Rome and sci-fi, Deatherage said he understands if people are put off by it at first. “Mixing ancient Rome with science fiction might make some people not like it because they might be like, ‘You have all this ancient stuff then you add sci-fi to it. It doesn’t make any sense.’ Really the sci-fi is a twist to the story. You learn as you go,” Deatherage said. Available only in the print version of the Custer County Chronicle.
