Not so fast, Mr. President

Barack Obama was taking a victory lap, in fact several, over the reported 7.1 million sign-up figure for Obamacare last week. This was the number of Americans that supposedly signed up for the highly tauted national health care plan by the March 31 deadline. If you have been following this debacle from the beginning, you know the law has had its share of speed bumps since passed by Democrats, and Democrats alone, and signed into law by the president March 23, 2010.
The original 2,000-plus page document that then House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi said had to be passed “so we know what is in it” has been changed by the president and his administration more than 30 times with Congressional approval or authorization. He has exempted members of Congress and unions from having to comply with its mandates, while the rest of us have been stuck with the bill.
Obama’s promised that “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” and “If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.” These statements have been shown to be outright untrue, lies if you will, as well as his claim that his health care plan would result in an average savings of $2,500 annually to middle class families for their health care insurance. In fact, this has been proven to be just the opposite for hard-working American families.
If Americans would have known that they would lose their doctors and their lower cost health care plans, and would have to pay an average of $2,500 more a year for health care, we seriously doubt this law would ever have seen the light of day, even by Senate Democrats who now fear for their reelections this November, and for good reason. Obamacare will be a main issue in 2014 elections.
The majority of Americans still disapprove of Obamacare and resent the government intruding into this area of their lives. There reportedly were some 30 million Americans uninsured before Obama pushed this onerous law in 2009. Supposedly, they would be now covered by the law and have health insurance. What these 30 million didn’t realize is that national health care insurance was not free. They would still have to pay for it.
The administration’s own Congressional Budget Office has projected that in 10 years there will still be about 30 million people uninsured under Obamacare. According to Gallup, there are more uninsured people today than when Obama took office. In fact, most of Obama’s supposed seven million new enrollees are people who lost their insurance because of Obamacare. Does this make sense?
Our country has been dragged through this whole health care mess because of Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Minority Senate Leader Harry Reid who were hell bent on leather to give the president his signature legislation just before Christmas 2009. In fact, the pugnacious Pelosi even went so far as to boast that the national health care bill was the Democrats’ “gift to the American people.” Please!
The fact that Obamacare is losing its luster, even to lapdog television networks, was borne out by the fact that the administration’s request for prime evening time for the president’s announcement was turned down by all television networks last week. He and the vice president had to trot out to a small Rose Garden group of supporters during the day instead.
The best health care system in the world has been turned upside down by this administration. Insurance companies, health care providers and most Americans in need of health care are left wondering when the next shoe will drop. This madness has to be stopped.
