Who’s going home with Oscar?
Published: Thursday, January 10th, 2013
I have something to confess. I’m a cinephile.
Cinephile: a devoted moviegoer, especially one knowledgeable about the cinema.
Award show season is my absolute favorite time of the year for a number of reasons: to see films get the praise they deserve, the fashion and to see if anyone trips up the stairs on the way to the stage (face it, it’s going to make news the next day. Don’t you want to see it when it happens the first time?). I think of all the years I’ve watched the awards shows this will be the hardest year for me to predict.
With great films like Argo, Silver Linings Playbook, Les Misérables, Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty, it’s going to be really hard to pick a deserving movie. And unfortunately, there’s never been a tie for the Best Picture category (but there’s always a first, right?). Here are my predications for the coveted Oscar:
Best Picture: I predict Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty, Argo, Les Misérables and Silver Linings Playbook to dominate the best picture category; however, if there are more than five films nominated (as there were nine last year!), I assume Life of Pi, Django Unchained, Beasts of the Southern Wild and Amour will make the cut. The Dark Knight Rises, Flight, The Impossible and The Hobbit are long shots by critic standards, but hey, you never know! I predict either Lincoln or Zero Dark Thirty to take the win.
