It’s been a pleasure knowing all of you

Since this is my last column before the Mayan Calendar ends and the world comes to an end, I figured this was as good a time as any to reflect on life and tell you how much I appreciate those in it.
What a quick 34 years it’s been. I spent the first 21 years of my life hoping to get older, and the last 13 hoping to get younger. I’ve seen the highest of highs, the lowest of lows, made some great friends and thankfully, few enemies. Along the way, there have been some seminal moments that have defined me as a person and are the most memorable.
I don’t remember learning to walk or talk. My first real memories are in kindergarten, where I made my first life-long friend, had my first kiss and quickly resented having to do real school work while another group of kids (who I now know were “slower”) got to cut and paste animals. Boy, was I bummed.
I fondly remember my college years (not so much my prep school years—at least not fondly), although I did thoroughly enjoy playing sports and developing my love for competition. Close friends and family will tell you I was a poor sport growing up. I prefer to call it being competitive.
