Welcome VFW State Convention

This weekend marks the very first time a Veterans of Foreign Wars State Convention has ever been held in Custer City. We join other local organizations and chamber of commerce members in welcoming the 300-plus convention attendees to the first, and naturally the oldest, established city in the Black Hills.
We hope your busy agenda will allow some free time to browse around our stores and see what the Southern Hills region has to offer in the way of recreation and enjoyment. If your tight three-day schedule doesn’t allow enough personal time, you can make plans now for your next family vacation to our area later this year or next year.
The fact that this year’s state convention is being held in Custer City has a great deal to do with State VFW Commander Bill Barlow serving as a member of Custer’s Kenneth Kuper Post 3442. Barlow, his convention chairman D.D. Couch, and the 13-member convention committee are to be commended for putting this annual event together in our community.
Once again, the Custer community has come together to pool its resources to handle such a massive event. The Custer School District has offered the use of several of its facilities in the new high school. The Custer YMCA, Custer Lutheran Fellowship and the Wrangler are also welcoming convention-goers to their facilities.
We may not have a convention center per se here to handle such a large convention, but just consider the entire city your convention headquarters for the remainder of the week. Again, on behalf of the entire community, we want to issue you a warm welcome and wish you a most successful convention.
Oh, one more thing. Thank you all for your service to our country! It is greatly appreciated by those of us who still enjoy our freedoms today, not only in America, but in countries around the world.
