Robert Evans

Robert J. “Bobby”â��Evans was born in Custer, S.D., Aug. 30, 1928, to Robert and Grace (O’Connor) Evans. In 1945, he joined the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge and return to Custer in 1949.
In 1958, Bobby married JoAnn (Lacey) Evans and they moved to Newcastle, Wyo., where Bob worked for Johnson Fuel Liners. In 1968, he returned to Custer where he owned and operated Custer Gas Service.  After retirement Bobby spent time in Arizona with great neighbors and friends.  In the summer months he worked part time at Rocky Knolls Golf Course.
Bobby loved life and had a great sense of humor. He loved sports. He was an avid Custer Wildcat and Denver Broncos fan. One of his favorite pastimes was watching his beloved grandsons play football and baseball. 
Bobby died June 21, 2013, at Custer Regional Hospital. He was 84.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law Ed Lacey; and granddaughter Casey Crane.
Bobby is survived by his wife JoAnn of Custer; son Greg (Carole) Evans of Pierre, S.D.; daughter Terri (Ed) Meierkort of  Celebration, Fla.; grandsons Reid and Chayse; special nephew Ryan Lacey; great grandsons, Jace and Zayden; sisters Pauline Goodwin of Custer, Betty Weig of Rapid City, S.D., and Jerry Burrow of El Sobrante, Calif.; mother-in-law Esther Lacey of Custer; brother Ronnie (Judy) Lacey of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and numerous other nieces,  nephews and lifelong friends. 
Funeral services were June 25 at Custer Lutheran Fellowship with Pastors Tom Opoien and Kent Narum officiating.  Committal services followed at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D. 
Memorials have been established to benefit either Custer Lutheran Fellowship or the Custer Volunteer Fire Department.
