Judy Wyland

Published: Thursday, June 20th, 2013

Judy M. Wyland was born Nov. 19, 1939, in Broadwater, Neb., to Howard Manly LeBar and Dorothy Marie (Hippen). In 1948, Judy underwent one of the first heart operations for a congenital patent ductus arteriosus. The surgery was experimental at the time and it was very difficult to find a doctor who would perform the surgery. Judy's family was able to find Dr. Potts from Children's Hospital in Chicago, Ill. and the surgery went very well.
She attended Broad-water Elementary and High School and then attended Chadron (Neb.) State College before entering LPN School in Alliance, Neb. She graduated from nursing school in 1959 and worked as an LPN in Chappell, Neb.
She married John Alva Wyland on May 28, 1962, in Golden, Colo. John enlisted in the Navy and they made their home all over the U.S. and even Africa. They lived in Colorado, San Francisco, Calif.; Brunswick, Maine; Morocco, Africa; Corpus Christi, Texas; San Diego, Calif.; Baker, Mont.; Dan-ville, Iowa.; Chadron, and finally returned to Bridgeport, Neb., in 1984. Of all the places Judy lived, she said she loved San Diego the most—weather was perfect all year round. Judy absolutely loved the military life and decorated her home with U.S. military memorabilia.
In her later years, Judy became very interested in the family genealogy and spent much time collecting photos and stories from the family history.
Judy loved her family the most and would give the skin off her back at the drop of a hat. Her favorite color was red and her home, clothing, jewelry and car reflected that. She very much enjoyed spending time in her yard tending to her flower gardens with her beloved standard poodles, Tobi and Teeka.
Judy was a member of the Messiah Lutheran church in Broadwater.
Judy died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport. She was 73.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, John Wyland; son, John B. Wyland; mother, Dorothy (Hip-pen) Berta; father, Howard LeBar; stepfather, Louie Berta; granddaughter, Lindsay Iske; nephew Kevin Tuggle; parents-in-law, Alfred and Bertha Wyland; brother-in-law, Kenny (Colleen) Wyland; sister-in-law, Carol Wickham; niece, Tonya M. (Wickham) Mracek; and many more treasured relatives.
She is survived by a son, Randy Wyland; daughter, Sherrie (Grant) Iske; granddaughter, Lauren Kloer; grandson, Brett (Jamie) Iske; sister, Janet (Gary) Tuggle; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jerry and Debbie Mundt, Norma and Jerome Kosmicki, Bill and Donna Meng and Leroy and Candy Wyland; brother-in-law, George Wickham; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
